Nature and wildlife is the major initial draw for many visitors to Botswana, but don’t forget to make time to get to know the welcoming people of Botswana, visiting the towns and villages and experiencing the rich cultural heritage.

Botswana's climate is semi-arid. Though it is hot and dry for much of the year, there is a rainy season, which runs through the summer months. Rainfall tends to be erratic, unpredictable and highly regional. Often a heavy downpour may occur in one area while 10 or 15 kilometres away there is no rain at all.

The official language of Botswana is English although Setswana is widely spoken across the country. The pula is the currency of Botswana. Pula literally means 'rain' in Setswana, because rain is very scarce in Botswana, home to much of the Kalahari Desert, and therefore valuable and a blessing.
As a guide, the maximum weight for checked luggage is 20kg in economy class and 30kg in business class and your hand-luggage should not weigh more than 6kg and needs to be small and compact. Casual, comfortable clothing is suitable throughout the year. Sunglasses, suntan lotion and insect repellent are a must. Some sturdy walking shoes and don’t forget your binoculars.
